Architect Dawid Konieczny separated the living room from the bedroom of this Warsaw apartment with a curved wall covered in the same beige plaster as the rest of the interior. A client who was after an ‘idiosyncratic and extravagant room for guests to enjoy’ prompted British interior firm Artichoke to create a spare bedroom that is themed in the most fairy-tale-like of ways. The notably striking feature is the built-in custom storage cupboards made from American red-cherry wood. Inscribed within the elaborate marquetry are hidden jewelled butterflies and beetles – a menagerie that would feel at home amid the flowers on the bedding. It’s an unlacquered brass cube box (the idea lends the project its name, ‘Jewel Box’) with interior walls clad in a textural warm-grey cowhide. The simplest way to split up space is with drapes, which lend themselves particularly well to studio living. It’s a shame that so many shy away from darker walls, which can feel wonderfully cocooning – perfect for the bedroom. In this north London home, interior design firm Studio Iro has let a moody shade of Bauwerk’s limewash paint shine by keeping everything else gratifyingly simple. Studio founder Lucy Currell describes her style as ‘soulful and warm, while remaining visually balanced and calming’.
