Is your teenage daughter tired of her childish room? Is she constantly begging you for help repainting or redecorating her room to a more mature look? Decorating a bedroom is practically a rite of passage for any teenager.
For a teenage girl, it’s an opportunity to show off her individual style and changing interests. Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered with a list of ideas so you can help your daughter choose the perfect look for her.
Look for Boho Chic Accessories
If your daughter isn’t overly girly, one of the best teen girl bedroom ideas is a boho styled room. It’s still feminie but not in the traditional way.
Look for light-stained wood furniture, add in some green plants, and keep it airy. She will love it, especially if she’s grown out of her childhood room.
Hang Some Fun Wall Decor
Back when I was a teenager, I “decorated” my walls with printed pictures of my friends and pages I pulled from magazines. And, I hung them all with scotch tape or tacks. My poor parents.
To avoid this disaster, invest in some really fun wall decor like this peace sign neon light or sputnik style picture hanger.
Go Glam
Out of all the teen girl bedroom themes you can think of, glam may be the most fun to execute.
Look for metallics, sequins, fur, basically anything that is over the top just enough that it’s not gaudy. Throw in a sparkly ceiling light and you’ve just become the parent of the year.
Decorate in Pastels for a Fun, Fresh Look
If your girl loves bright colors, but you prefer a more neutral, toned down look, decorate with pastels. They are still light and airy (so you aren’t faced with visual clutter whenever her bedroom door is open) but are still way more vibrant than beige.
Create an Inspiring Study Corner
In order to get your daughter to actually study or work at her desk, it needs to be inviting. So, get creative with it to inspire her to do the same.
There’s no need to hold back with this, just make sure there’s enough space on the desk for her to fit her laptop and a cup of water.
Get A Fun Armchair
Chances are, throughout your home you have pretty basic colors (it’s one of the sadder parts of being a grown up), but your daughter’s room should reflect her style, not yours.
Invest in a funky armchair to give her a spot to cozy up and read, but also serves as a fun statement piece in her room. This magenta chair is a perfect example of the fun a little color brings.
Buy a Vanity for Makeup and Jewelry
My 4-year-old has a vanity that houses all of her pretend makeup, jewelry, headbands, and hairbrush. There is no doubt in my mind that she will want a grown-up version of this as soon as she’s big enough to.
So, if your girl is anything like mine, make this your splurge piece for her room. Make sure there’s enough space for her to store all of her things, and a spot for her to prop up her tablet while she perfects her eyeliner technique with a YouTube tutorial.
Add Subtle Touches Of Color
For some girls, no matter how much they loved the color pink when they were little, they cannot fathom the idea of pink in their bedroom once they’re older (perhaps they think it’s “too baby” for them). If that’s the case, you don’t have to go completely colorless, just add in subtle hints of color.
This bedspread is a perfect example of how you can toss in some color without overwhelming the room. You can also add a splash with a throw blanket, pillows, or a desk chair.
Free Up Space With A Loft Bed
If she doesn’ have a ton of floor space, figuring out a teenage girl’s bedroom design can be particularly difficult. A loft bed is a great solution to this though, because it utilizes the height of the room in a way you just can’t with other furniture.
In addition to the built-in desk in this loft, you can also put some floor pillows in the corner to make a cozy little reading nook. Hang some fairy lights from the bars under the mattress and you’ve created the coziest space ever.
Incorporate Velvet
The return of velvet could have been disastrous, but instead it came back with a feminine, luxe look. It looks particularly great in jewel tones and subtle patterns.
You don’t want to go overboard with this, but tossing a few velvet throw pillows onto your daughter’s bed will elevate the style, give it a little glam, and make her room feel super cozy.
Get Comfy with Tons of Pillows
Regular bed pillows. Throw pillows. Floor pillows. Chair cushion. Window seat! Seriously, wherever you can add in some cozy pillows, do it. You want your daughter to feel comfortable lounging in her room with her friends, and the best way to do that is with all the pillows!
Turquoise Accents Make a Room Pop
Is your daughter over pink, but still loves pops of color? Go with turquoise. It complements a ton of other great colors, and also stands out drastically if it’s up against a dark color like navy blue or black.
Turquoise is still a very feminine color, and it’s great for a girl who still loves some glam, but with a twist.
Hang a Corkboard for Mementos and Pictures
Alright, let’s face it, friend groups and partners switch up on a regular basis when you’re a teenage girl, so putting a picture in an actual frame is a big commitment.
So, offer your daughter a different way to proudly display her friends’ smiling faces – with a fun corkboard! All she needs are some decorative push-pins and she’s all set to swap out pictures as often or as little as she’d like.
Consider A Bold Tufted Headboard
Okay, this is definitely an investment piece, so it’s only meant for the teenage girl who has a color she loves so much that you honestly believe she will continue to love it for years to come.
If your girl has a signature color, find her a fun, bold, tufted headboard in its hue to give her something a little special.
Make Space For Sleepovers
I loved sleepovers with my friends well into my teen years, and I was lucky to have enough space in my bedroom for two twin beds to fit. There was always a spot for my best friend to crash, but only after hours of gossiping, of course.
Any girl would love to have a spot for her best friend to sleep during those sleepovers. So, if you have the space, ask if she’d rather have a bigger bed, or two twins.
Get A Stand-Out Desk
The best teenage girl bedroom ideas have a designated space for a desk. Whether or not she actually does her homework at the desk is to be determined, but it’s worth the effort to give her one in case she will.
Rather than a standard (read: boring) desk, find one that has a little something extra. Maybe it’s a fun pattern, a bold color, or metallic hairpin legs.
Look for a Cozy Daybed
A daybed is a creative alternative to a regular bed because it doubles as a bed and a couch. This is a great idea for teenage girls who have smaller rooms but still want an inviting and comfortable space to hang out with friends.
If the room is short on space, look for a daybed with pull-out storage underneath, like in this picture.
Hang Some Pictures With Twinkle Lights
Another great way for your daughter to display pictures of her friends is with clothes pins attached to twinkle lights. Twinkle lights make for a wonderfully cozy space, and pictures of her friends will just make her feel that much more at home.
Paint With Bright Hues
It’s much easier to find solid colored bedding than it is to find the perfect print that your daughter will love. So, rather than spending hours hunting for a comforter that may not exist, just paint her walls a bright color she loves like purple, pink, turquoise, or yellow.
You can use the walls as your base color and then get complimenting solids to decorate the rest of the room. You can even toss in some simple patterns here and there to liven things up a bit.
Make The Room Bright
If you don’t love the idea of bright colors, you can still make the room bright with lots of natural light, and a more airy vibe.

However, if you can’t stand the chaos of mismatching decor (no shame, I feel the same way), find one thing you can keep consistent throughout the room.
Poms are a great way to do this. They can hang off blankets, pillows, curtains, be hot glued to lamp shades, and used in garland. Have your daughter toss them around basically anywhere because even if the room is total chaos, you can take comfort in this constant.
Get A Four Poster Bed
When it comes to bed ideas for teenage girls, it doesn’t get more glam than a four poster bed. She may have dreamed of having one when she was a little girl (after all, so many princesses have them), but you can make it look a little more grown up with a style like this one. It’s minimalistic, has clean lines, and a touch of femininity thanks to the brass finish.
Add Some Stylish Storage
Books, picture frames, candles, phone chargers, a lamp, and whatever else she has need to be stowed away somewhere. So, invest in some stylish storage like the bookshelf in this room. Even better, the floating shelf beside the bed can hold her phone overnight and takes up way less space than a nightstand (leaving that floor space for a bookcase).
Hang a Hammock Chair
Let me just say, if I had had one of these in my bedroom when I was growing up, I would have practically lived in it. (Shoot, I’d love one in my room now!)
Something like this gives her a little corner spot where she can read a book, write in her journal, or just scroll through Instagram. No matter what she does, it will serve as her little cozy spot since she only has one room in the house that belongs to just her.
Put Up Some Wallpaper
Adding wallpaper to create an accent wall is a key feature in a lot of really cool bedrooms for teenage girls. Have her pick out her favorite pattern somewhere and let her pick the wall she wants to make the accent.
It’s a really fun way to let her take the lead in her room. Once she picks her pattern you can plan the rest of the bedroom around it. Plus, wallpaper is easier to hang than ever – and there are a lot of removable options, too!
Upgrade The Furniture
When I had my first baby, I got her a dresser I thought would last her a long time, and a crib that would ultimately convert into a full size bed. But, truth be told, by the time she’s a teenager she will be due for some new furniture, even if her original holds up.
You don’t even have to upgrade all of the pieces, just one will make a big difference. You can also update what she does have by putting new knobs on her dresser or repainting her nightstand.
Let Her Have Her Own TV
If your girl loves to watch TV, and doesn’t have one in her room already, letting her put one in now will make her feel so grown up. By this point she’s probably old enough to monitor/limit her screen time and can be trusted to follow the rules. Plus, who doesn’t love to lay in bed and watch Netflix now and then?
