6 literal days in Genesis

Reply to Alan W Fowler

“Like so many others, Darwin failed to see that Genesis 1 is a
dramatic account of life on earth over millions of years, described within
a human time frame of six days. The language is carefully chosen. The
command “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their
kinds.” tells us nothing about whether life originated by creation or
evolution. Moreover the ‘kinds’ or units of creation may refer to the
major categories or families of living things.”

Reply:
The first verse of the Bible states “In the beginning God created the
heavens and the earth”. I think we can take it that this implies that
creation is real.
The account, as written in Genesis is intended, and I believe can only be
understood in a literal, historical context.

Some people have a problem with the idea that God could have done
such a thing, but that is just how God is presented in the Bible. He is a
God of unlimited power and wisdom. He is also separate from Creation and
not in any way subordinate to it. He could have created the whole universe
in an instant if He had chosen to, but for reasons which we do not know,
He chose to create all things in 6 literal days.

There is much support for 6 day creation in the rest of the Bible.
One example would be the teaching that before sin entered the world at the
“fall” described in Genesis chapter 3, there was no death. This means that
so called “theistic evolution” cannot be correct since death would have
had to have preceded the fall.

“In the final analysis it is the fossil record that provides the
principal evidence for the extent to which Darwinian evolution explains
the origin of life in all its amazing variety and complexity. It is my
conviction that the variety and distribution of living forms suggests
evolution and their complexity implies creation. It is time we stopped the
sterile debate-‘Evolution or Creation’` and engaged in discussion on the
balance between the two creative pathways. The writer has attempted this
in a little book entitled A Drama of Creation: the Genesis record and the
fossil record.”

Reply:
The fossil record, about which we have heard so much, does not prove
evolution. Of note is the complete absence of “intermediate forms”. The
fossil evidence points to a major, global, catastrophic event, otherwise
known as the biblical Flood.

David
