There's a reason yogurt parfaits are a beloved go-to breakfast: They're quick to make, rich in nutrients and, well, they're just plain delicious.

And those following a gluten-free diet will be happy to hear that many yogurt brands and flavors are safe to eat — with a few exceptions. Read on to learn about the many gluten-free yogurt brands at your disposal.

Is Yogurt Gluten-Free?
Some store-bought yogurts may or may not contain gluten depending on the flavors, mix-ins and added ingredients. Be sure to double-check the label to guarantee these ingredients are gluten-free.

According to Milk Facts (a website from Cornell University), these are the common ingredients in most yogurts:
- Milk: The milk used in most yogurt (unless otherwise labeled) is plain and free of gluten ingredients.
- Stabilizers: Stabilizers used in yogurt help keep the product fresh and prevent separation. For the most part, these are free of gluten.
- Sweeteners: Many flavored yogurts will include sweetening ingredients, which you want to read carefully. While most sweeteners (like sugar) are gluten-free, specialty flavors can contain chunks of cookies or cake, which may not be safe to eat.

Depending on the flavor of yogurt you buy, some companies may add gluten-containing ingredients to their formulas. Or, they may produce their products in a factory that also manufactures gluten-based foods — that puts your yogurt at risk of cross-contamination, according to the Celiac Disease Foundation.
Tip
Look for a yogurt brand that's labeled "Gluten-Free" — that means it contains less than 20 parts per million (ppm) of gluten and is considered safe for people with celiac disease or gluten sensitivities, according to the FDA.
For even more security, buy a yogurt labeled "Certified Gluten-Free." The Gluten-Free Certification Organization (GFCO) has especially strict standards, certifying foods that have 10 ppm of gluten or less.

1. Chobani Greek Yogurt
Most Chobani products are gluten-free and safe to eat with the exception of some Chobani Flip products (which include gluten-containing mix-ins like pretzels or cookie dough), according to the company website. Double-check the package before you add it to your cart.

2. Dannon
Dannon's whole yogurt line — including Plain Yogurt, Fruit on the Bottom, Blended Yogurt, Low-Fat Yogurt and Creamy Yogurt — are all Certified Gluten-Free (which means they have less than 10 ppm of gluten), according to the company website.

3. fa*ge
fa*ge yogurt is much-loved for its high protein content. And its line of yogurts are gluten-free — including the Total Plain, Total Split Cup, Total Blended and BestSelf lactose-free, according to the fa*ge website.

4. Cabot
Cabot Greek yogurt makes a great choice for people sensitive to gluten. The company website says, "All of Cabot's products are gluten-free. Any and all ingredients, anti-caking agents, etc. are researched and verified to be gluten-free."
Cabot is based out of Vermont, and though they're known best for their cheeses, their delicious yogurt comes in a variety of yummy flavors like Strawberry and Tripple Cream Vanilla.

5. Stonyfield
