A Stitch In Time (2022) | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Cath Clarke Guardian It’s a movie with all its edges filed down and a soundtrack that doesn’t so much tug at the heartstrings as yank them. But 89-year-old actor Maggie Blinco gives a performance of such gentleness and dignity she pulls the quality up from its Hallmark level. Rated: 3/5 Nov 20, 2023 Full Review A Stitch In Time (2022) | Rotten Tomatoes (2) David Stratton The Australian A Stitch in Time, the first feature by Australian writer-director Sasha Hadden, is a genuine charmer about an elderly woman who, late in life, decides to make a radical change. Rated: 4/5 May 5, 2022 Full Review A Stitch In Time (2022) | Rotten Tomatoes (3) Paul Byrnes Sydney Morning Herald It’s a craft-driven comedy, in that sense, with some good textural scenes about cloth and cutting and design. Rated: 3.5/5 May 5, 2022 Full Review A Stitch In Time (2022) | Rotten Tomatoes (4) Alexa Dalby Dog and Wolf A Stitch in Time is a lovely new twist on something that could have been boringly predictable. Rated: 3/5 Nov 29, 2023 Full Review A Stitch In Time (2022) | Rotten Tomatoes (5) Helen Hawkins The Arts Desk It's another perfectly pleasant film for a rainy day by the TV, but I wanted it to grow small but perceptible teeth. Rated: 3/5 Nov 27, 2023 Full Review A Stitch In Time (2022) | Rotten Tomatoes (6) Graeme Tuckett Stuff.co.nz A Stitch In Time is a wee gem. Debutant director and writer Sasha Hadden might ladle on the sentiment a little thickly on the home straight, but every move he makes that gets us there is well executed. Timo Z Hoa Xuande is so gorgeous on-screen throughout the film. He did an excellent job portraying Liebe's friend Hamish. There is so much depth in the relationship between him and Liebe that reminded me of my relationship with my grandfather. It is not often that we have an Australian film that gives an Asian actor a lead role and it's so refreshing to see that finally we have an outstanding actor representing our community on screen. The film gave a realistic portrayal of Asian Australians' everyday contribution to our diverse country. It showcased the sweat, tears, struggles, breakthrough and fun we experience. The rest of the Chinese students are simply brilliant. I won't say too much here because I don't want to give any spoiler.Separately, Christine played by Belinda Giblin is just genius. Every time she appeared on screen, she makes us laugh out loud. In this regard, writer/director Sasha Hadden certainly had a facility of comedy. Christine's role has given much balance to the emotional journey that Liebe had travelled through. Fair to say, we were all jealous of Liebe having a good friend like Christine.Overall, I left the cinemas feeling nourished, entertained and proud. And as I stepped out of the door, I noticed that there were no dry eyes amongst the audience. I highly recommend, A Stitch In Time. It's a solid, feel-good dramatic story that nails its positive messaging while telling an uplifting story. While the film has moments of acting that seem slightly unfitting or more suitable for the big stage, the message and story can't be argued with. The emotions aimed for in this are all present and unavoidable. It is a solid Aussie film that's certainly worth a watch- just be sure to wear your best dress while doing so.
