Consequently, most Americans cook on a regular basis (69%), especially Northeasterners (78%), averaging 10 home-cooked meals a week. Moreover, 30 percent of “foodies” are making upwards of 13home-cooked meals a week.
When asked to describe theircooking style, respondents most identified with being the“healthy” cook, prioritizing nutritional value (34%), or thequick, speedy cookwho tries to finish as soon as possible (30%). Respondents in the Northeast preferquick cooking (42%), while 21% of those in the Southeast prefer slow, methodical cooking.
The most commonly attempted recipes come from:
- 53% American
- 43% Italian
- 34% German
- 33% China
- 20% Caribbean
- 13% Hawaiian
And for many, it may not just be about what you make, but how you make it. Two in three respondents believe theircooking toolsor equipment impacts the overall quality of food (67%).
Some of the more popular and rare devices to have in the kitchen include:
- 44% high-quality knives
- 41% a collection of rare spices/seasonings
- 39% multi-kitchen tools
- 36% above-the-stove pot fillers
- 13% pasta rollers
- 11% smokers
Respondents would be interested in adding a double oven (26%), espresso maker(22%) or wok (21%) to live out their “foodie” dreams.
