Is 700 words enough for a blog? ›

Some content marketing experts suggest that 1500-2000 words are the ideal length of a blog post. However, many companies and brands stick to shorter blog length guidelines (500-750 words) to honor a specific element of their marketing strategy.

At the very least, if you're going to write short blogs, try to hit at least the 300-word mark. A post between 400-600 words is widely considered the “standard” length, and it's a good middle ground if you're looking to get more social shares and comments.

The ideal blog post length is between 1,500 - 2,500 words, with a sweet spot right at 2,450. This length allows you to provide your readers with enough information to be informative and helpful, while also keeping their attention.

Aim to make your posts roughly 1,500 – 2,500 words: that's the best length for blog posts, generally. If it's a straightforward topic, 1,000 words is fine. (And it's okay to include even shorter posts from time to time, too.)

Assuming you have an idea and are reasonably fast at typing, it should take around 45 minutes to 2 hours to write 500 words. This obviously depends on your skills and topic research. If you need to research as you go along, it will take longer.

According to a HubSpot study from 2021, the ideal blog post length for SEO should be 2,100-2,400 words. That's a lot longer than the 200- or 500-word blog posts most writers or webmasters think is ideal.

At a very minimum, a blog post should be at least 500 words, but if you want to have any chance to rank highly on Google SERPs, you're gonna want to get to at least 1,000, and hopefully closer to 2,000, or even 3,000 words depending on the query.

For a 500-word article, beginner writers might charge between $3 to $25, while more experienced writers might charge between $30 to $150, and expert writers might charge up to $1,000 or more.

“What is” Blog Posts

Typically, when users search for what, who, or when, they're looking for a short answer or a quick explanation. So a good “what is” post should be around 1,300 to 1,700 words. In fact, 30% of Hubspot's most-read “what is” posts contain less than a thousand words.

400-600 words: These are considered smaller blog posts although some say they are “the minimum length”. These are not educational posts, more just bite-size, digestive reads for those less invested. They are pretty good for social shares and engagement, however, too short to drive website traffic or affect SEO.
