Bloons Tower Defense 7 (BTD7) is the latest and current flagship title of the Bloons Tower Defense series developed and published by Ninja Kiwi on August 2, 2020 on Android, iOS, Steam, Mac OS, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Playstation 5.

The game adds a sheer increase in content volume and deepens the gameplay of Bloons TD6, with new features including:

Gameplay[]

BTD7's gameplay is drastically different from previous games. Like other games, the core gameplay is to prevent enemy Bloons from reaching the exits by making a defense consisting of various towers. The player can chooses one of several towers and powers to place around the track in order to defend against the Bloons, gaining 1 dollar for every layer of bloon popped. If a Bloon reaches the end of a path, the player loses health; once these are all depleted, the game ends. The Bloons always follow the map's set path on the track until they either reach the exits, are popped, stunned, or moved to an earlier part of the track by a tower's ability. Unlike previous games in the Bloons TD series, Bloons TD 7 is played in a fully 3D perspective (in BTD6, the towers and attacks are in a 3D perspective only).

Differences from Previous Installments[]

  • The game's backstory reflects the events of the previous Bloons TD games and is much more detailed.
  • The game uses Ninja Kiwi's native engine instead of Unity.
  • Specialist Buildings are reworked from BTD5. They no longer increase the cost of another tower and they could be placed indefinitely.
  • Money is renamed to Eco, which could also be earned by gaining income every second.
  • Higher difficulties now have lower Eco and have a slower income speed. For example, Hard Difficulty has 700 starting cash and generates Eco every 1.5s.
  • The Monkey XP system from BTD6 is abolished, meaning upgrades could now be unlocked using main XP. However, entire tiers are unlocked per tower.
  • Monkey Enhancement replaces Monkey Knowledge from BTD6, which uses Bloontonium to upgrade. Monkey Enhancement stacks infinitely and is similar to the Token system of BTD5.
  • Impoppable Mode is made seperate from Hard Mode and has its own game difficulties.
  • Insta-Monkeys are renamed to Insta-Towers and such they are no longer prohibited in CHEEPS mode. However, they are still prohibited in EPICSHIP mode.
    • In addition, they are now awarded every 50 rounds instead of 100.
  • Upgrade descriptions alluding to how powerful the upgrade is are removed and replaced by how the tower has been improved. For example, the upgrade description for the Super Monkey's The Anti-Bloon is changed from "<Program Directive> <Eradicate Bloons> <INITIATE>" to "Anhillation Ability instantly deals 5000 damage to up to 10,000 bloons within the blast range. Main attack becomes much stronger, gaining +4 damage, +5 pierce, pops any bloon type, and the Super Monkey gains +10 range. Does Crits every 13-17th shot that deals 50 damage."

Towers[]

Bloons Tower Defense 7 features a roster of 41 Towers and 23 Heroes to help pop Bloons. Towers are split into five classes: Primary, Secondary, Military, Magic, and Support. Each tower one with its own unique attacks, abilities, and strengths. Each tower offers 24 total upgrades which are split into 4 paths of 6 upgrades where a player can get three paths: 1 path to Tier 6, a path to Tier 4, and another path to Tier 2. If someone upgrades one path then another, the path that wasn't chosen will be closed. Also, there can only be one Tier 6 upgrade for each path on screen at all times.

Dart Monkey

The key staple of an early-game defense, the Dart Monkey throws darts to pop up to 2 Bloons. The Dart Monkey possesses many upgrades that are very helpful in the earlier rounds, including a low-cost camo detection upgrade.

A stationary multi-gun turret that shoots 8 tacks per shot. It is generally low-cost but comes with low range and an inability to adjust its aim. Many of its upgrades are based on dealing with bloons quickly within its close range. It has many different ways to counter non-camo bloon types.

Bomb Shooter

Shoots bombs, which create explosions that can hit many bloons affected by the blasts. Bombs tend to pack a high amount of pierce per shot but are shot quite slowly. Bomb Shooters are normally used to deal with Lead Bloons and counter densely packed bloons, maximizing their high pierce potential.

Ice Monkey

The endothermic anatomy of the Ice Monkey allows it to pop and freeze bloons within its range by generating radial waves of coldness, clapping perpetually for every attack. It packs with a substantially high pierce but has low range and attacks very slowly.

Boomerang Thrower

Throws boomerangs that come with a decent amount of pierce and a good amount of range. Boomerangs are typically thrown in a curved shape, making these projectiles quite effective around curves where they can maximize travel against the direction of the bloons.

Wields a saber that pops up to 8 Bloons per shot. Like the Boomerang Thrower's boomerangs, sabers are thrown in a curved shape, greatly increasing the popping power and range.
