Dark Dirigible Titan (DDT) (2024)

What's a DDT Bloon you ask? Like a MOAB crossed with a Pink, Camo, Black and Lead Bloon. In all the bad ways.
~ Round 90 Pre-Round Comment in BTD6

The Dark Dirigible Titan (DDT) is a MOAB-Class Bloon that first debuted in Bloons Monkey City and has subsequently appeared in every Bloons TD game since (notably the entire BTD6 Generation). With the properties of Camo, Lead, Pink, and Black Bloons, the DDT is immune to Sharp, Explosive type attacks while also having the camo property. It moves at the speed of a Pink Bloon in BMC, slightly faster (2.75x) than the speed of a Ceramic Bloon (2.5x) in BTD6 and BTDB2, or the same speed as a Green Bloon in BATTD. Altogether, the DDT is a fast-moving, highly evasive threat.

In Bloons TD 6, the DDT first appears on Round 90 with 480 health (20% higher than its base HP of 400, due to Freeplay scaling). This is more health than the base MOAB, but less than a BFB; however, the game considers the DDT and Fortified DDT to be stronger than Fortified ZOMGs and weaker than BADs for target priority considerations. Using a decamo attack such as Submerge and Support will strip its Camouflage. Upon destruction, the DDT will release 4 Camo Regrow Ceramic Bloons (4 Regrow Ceramics when Camo property is stripped), making its total RBE 816, but 752 on Round 90 (480 base health, 68 RBE per Super Ceramic). If leaked, it will consume 660 lives (1100 if fortified). It is also the child of the BAD and BTD6 Bloonarius.

In Bloons Monkey City, the DDT has 300 health on its outer layer and releases 6 Camo Regrow Ceramics. Note that this base health is effectively reduced by the MOAB Health multipliers in BMC, as Grassy Pass cities have 66% health for MOABs, and Bloon Dunes cities have 80% health for MOABs. In Bloons Adventure Time TD it moves as fast as a Green Bloon and releases 4 Camo Regrow Ceramics.

Details[]

It has the appearance of a dark-gray blimp with various black and transparent patches, which resemble its abilities. The DDT has the properties of the Lead, Black, and Camo Bloon (except on BMC Mobile and Steam, where it only has camo properties), being immune to sharp and explosive damage, while also being undetectable by most towers unless they are under the radius of a Monkey Village with Radar Scanner. It is also very fast, being the 4th fastest bloon in the game, and is significantly faster than all other MOAB-Class Bloons.

Leaking the DDT in Bloons Monkey City will cause a player to lose 16656 lives, equivalent in RBE to a ZOMG, and not its RBE of 924. In Bloons TD 6, leaking the DDT will cause the player to lose 660 (1,100 if fortified) lives, which is less than a BAD, ZOMG, BFB, or a DDT in BMC.

RBE = {400x[+400x]+(68[+60]*4)}=400x+272/800x+512

For example, a DDT on Round 100 has 1.4x health, so its RBE is 400*1.4+272=832. Similarly, a Fortified DDT on Round 138 has 4.7x health, so its RBE is 800*4.7+512=4,272. Its base health is 672, but they don't occur before Round 90 outside of Apopalypse and ABR.

After taking 480 damage, it releases 4 Camo Regrow Ceramic Bloons in BTD6. In Bloons Monkey City, DDTs originally release 6 Camo Regrow Ceramic Bloons after taking 300 damage. DDTs first appear in Round 90 in BTD6. In the Flash version of BMC, DDTs can be sent or researched for Monkey v Monkey through the Armored Stealth Silo.

The combination of immunities makes a DDT difficult to damage, as most of the popular anti-M.O.A.B. towers need Monkey Village support to overcome the DDT's superior abilities. On top of this, in BTD6, it can appear in a Fortified form which first appears in Round 99, doubling its health and making it even stronger. DDTs appear in large groups (usually in groups of 3 in BMC) which can be problematic as they could skim through an improper defense.

Bloons Monkey City[]

DDTs make their first appearance on this game. They will guarantee appear on a tile marked "DDT", but can also appear on Assault tiles (Flash) or Bloon Strategy tiles (Mobile/Steam).

Disputed information accuracy
The factual accuracy of this article has been disputed, possibly containing misinformation.

The disputed content in question is: Bloons TD 6 article suggests 3.75x speed, which is a contradiction to this section and possibly other sections of this article

DDTs will naturally only spawn on rounds past Round 80, more specifically Round 90 (Round 88 on ABR). Their children spawn Camo Regrow Ceramics when popped, or practically Camo Regrow Super Ceramics due to naturally appearing in Rounds 81+. DDTs move at 2.64x the speed of a Red Bloon, slightly more than the speed of a Ceramic Bloon.

They naturally appear in Impoppable and CHIMPS mode, more specifically appearing on Rounds 90, 93, 95, and 99.

Round 99 has 9 Fortified DDTs appearing in shorter intervals.

In a normal game, DDTs will appear in packs of 3. Round 90 has 3 DDTs, Round 93 has 6 DDTs, round 95 has 30 DDTs and round 99 has 9 fortified DDTs. On round 100, 3 DDTs will spawn when the BAD is popped. Rounds 102-140 also applies these rules.

Between Rounds 81-99 in Apopalypse Mode, a single DDT could be spotted between various other MOAB-Class Bloons, and Fortified DDTs may rarely appear.

The round with the largest amount of DDTs is Round 138, featuring 81*2 (fortified)+45=207 DDTs. Fortified DDTs are counted as 2 DDTs.

Bloons Adventure Time TD[]

DDTs will spawn on Impoppable on rounds 69, 71, 73, (fortified) and 75 (as BAD children).

Bloons TD Battles 2[]

DDTs make a comeback in this game, and can be sent for $2,500 per Spaced DDT or $6,000 per 3 Grouped DDTs. Sending a DDT has an income penalty of 150 Eco (300 if Fortified), while sending out 3 Grouped DDTs reduces eco by 300 (or 600 if Fortified). Spaced DDTs unlock on Round 26, while Grouped DDTs unlock on Round 28. Grouped DDTs, while represented as three DDTs, are not the counterpart for Tight DDTs.

Natural DDTs first spawn on Round 45. Subsequent natural DDTs appear on later rounds.

Dark Dirigible Titans move at a base speed of 68.75, equal to 2.75 RBS.

Immunities[]

BMC[]

Due to their Lead and Black Bloon properties, DDTs cannot be damaged by sharp or explosive attacks without Monkey Intelligence Bureau.

In BMC Mobile and Steam, they do not possess Lead or Black property making them significantly less dangerous outside of their speed and its children.

The best defense against DDTs involves the use of Monkey Intelligence Bureau, the only way to make towers that normally pop only one of Lead or Black to pop both.

BTD6[]

The BTD6 iteration of the DDT inherits its immunities from BMC.

As in BMC, the only method to make virtually every upgrade damage DDTs is to use Monkey Intelligence Bureau, assuming that the tower already can hit MOAB-class bloons directly. However, more buffs as well as debuffs exist to also make DDTs more vulnerable to damage. For instance, Acidic Mixture Dip, Gwendolin's Heat-It-Up and Admiral Brickell's Level 5+ abilities give lead-popping. Similarly, Striker Jones Level 5+ grants a 50% chance for any explosives that cannot already damage Black Bloons to deal damage to Black Bloons, including DDTs. DDTs first appear on Round 90, with a particularly dangerous rush of 30 DDTs on Round 95. They also appear on Rounds 93 and 99, with their fortified versions appearing on Round 99.

Some upgrades, such as the Spectre or the projectiles of an Apache Dartship, have projectiles that can pop normal Leads and normal Blacks with two types of projectiles with different damage types, usually darts and bombs. However, DDTs cannot be damaged by darts or bombs without special upgrades. On the other hand, Heroes such as Gwendolin Level 4+ or Level 5+ Striker Jones can temporarily grant DDT-popping power to specific projectile types. Heat it Up temporarily allows sharp projectiles to pop DDTs, while Striker's Level 5 gives explosive projectiles a 50% chance to damage DDTs. However, Level 19+ Striker Jones allows all explosive projectiles to damage DDTs, as the Black Bloon property is completely nullified at that level.

However, most abilities that can hit MOAB-class bloons can affect DDTs, provided that the tower with the ability has Camo detection of some sort. This includes projectiles that normally wouldn't hurt DDTs, with the most significant example being that all bomb-based abilities (including Ground Zero, MOAB Assassin, First Strike Capability) are capable of hurting DDTs without their main attacks being able to pop Black Bloons, although both the MOAB Assassin and MOAB Eliminator abilities require Camo detection to affect DDTs.

Besides towers that cannot affect MOAB-class, the following towers cannot damage DDTs independently, provided they are given Camo detection (or if the DDT has its Camo properties removed):

BATTD[]

DDTs have propellers, and they appear in Rounds 69, 71, and 73. On round 73, the DDTs are fortified.

Similar to BTD6, they have the properties of Camo, Lead, and Black. However, they move at the speed of a Green Bloon, ignoring any added speed modifications. This still makes them the fastest of the MOAB Class Bloons.

Even if its camo property is stripped, it still has the same texture.

Children[]

In Bloons Monkey City, the DDT contains 6 Camo Regen Ceramic Bloons, which contain 12 Camo Regen Rainbow Bloons, which contains 24 Camo Regen Zebra Bloons, which contain 48 Camo Regen Black and White Bloons. Those contain 96 Camo Regen Pinks, Yellows, Greens, Blues, and finally, Reds. In total, the DDT contains a total of 570 Bloons (571, including itself). In the case of Bloons TD 6, the DDT contains 4 Camo Regen Ceramic Bloons, which contain 4 Camo Regen Rainbow Bloons due to freeplay Ceramics release only 1 Rainbow, which contain 4 Camo Regen Zebra Bloons, which contain 4 Camo Regen Black and White Bloons. Those contain 4 Camo Regen Pinks, Yellows Greens, Blues, and finally, Reds. In total, the DDT contains 36 bloons (37, including itself). The DDT is extremely dangerous, and it should not be fought until a strong defense is well prepared. DDTs are also the only MOAB-Class Bloons to have standard bloon abilities such as Camo.

DDT vs ZOMG[]

Main article: DDT vs ZOMG

Bloons Monkey City[]

There is some debate regarding whether or not the DDT is actually stronger than the ZOMG. The game considers the DDT to be stronger than a ZOMG as towers set to target "strong" bloons prioritize attacking DDTs over ZOMGs. The ZOMG has more health than the DDT and is immune and resistant to most abilities like M.O.A.B. Take-Down (while the DDT can be taken down by most abilities), but the DDT has more abilities than the ZOMG. Essentially, what the ZOMG lacks in abilities it makes up for by using brute strength and resilience and what the DDT lacks in strength it makes up for by hybridizing abilities and immunities. It is also worth noting that ZOMGs appear on (most) DDT tiles as well, so it is important to prepare for both.

Bloons TD 6[]

It is also debatable whether the DDT is actually stronger than the ZOMG. The game considers the ZOMG to be stronger than a DDT as towers set to target "strong" bloons prioritize attacking ZOMGs over DDTs. However, target settings will generally target Fortified DDTs over ZOMGs in most cases. Certain upgrades may act differently on DDTs, with a strength spanning from between MOAB to ZOMG, if not sometimes above ZOMG.

The following are some additional comparisons on the interactions between towers and Dark Dirigible Titans, besides simple targeting of ZOMGs over DDTs:

  • Pirate Lord will target ZOMGs first before targeting any other bloon type, starting with Fortified DDTs and then DDTs, then BFBs and M.O.A.B.s.
  • Bomb Blitz's description claims that it can fully destroy DDTs, BFBs, and MOABs, but not ZOMGs.
  • Super Glue can fully stun DDTs and Fortified DDTs but not BFBs or ZOMGs, making DDTs seem as weak as MOABs in this interaction.
  • Unstable Concoction requires additional pierce for DDTs to be coated in explosive chemicals when compared to MOABs. The requirements for DDTs are just as much as is required for BFBs, making DDTs seem as strong as BFBs.
  • MOAB Press special knockback boomerangs will only slow DDTs instead of pushing them backward, and even then the knockback boomerangs will not always hit DDTs due to the fast speed of such bloons.
  • MOAB Domination stuns any affected MOAB-class bloon before pushing them back a fair distance. Unlike MOAB Press, MOAB Domination affects DDTs similarly to when against MOABs.
  • MOAB Shove will slow down DDTs (with camo detection) but not push back like MOABs or fully stall like BFBs, making DDTs "stronger" than BFBs and MOABs, and just as strong as ZOMGs.
  • MOAB Assassin and MOAB Eliminator abilities cannot target DDTs without camo detection, but if given camo detection they will still target ZOMGs over DDTs. Similar interactions occur for Bloon Master Alchemist's passive bloon-transformation ability.
  • Maim MOAB and Cripple MOAB will stun DDTs for 1.5 seconds and 4.0 seconds, respectively. Cripple MOAB stuns last longer compared to ZOMGs, at 3.0 seconds instead.
  • Shattering Shells can remove the fortified property from MOABs and BFBs but not from DDTs, ZOMGs, or BADs, making DDTs appear as strong as ZOMGs in the case of interacting with Shattering Shells.
  • Blooncineration can decamo and defortify DDTs without support, but it cannot defortify ZOMGs at all, making DDTs appear weaker than ZOMGs when interacting with Blooncineration.
  • Sun Temple max magic sacrifices can blow back MOABs but not BFBs, DDTs, ZOMGs, or BADs.
  • Benjamin's Syphon Funding ability cannot affect DDTs regardless of upgrades, while his Bloon Trojan attacks cannot affect DDTs or BFBs until Level 18. On the opposite side, ZOMGs cannot be at all targeted by Bloon Trojan, but it will always be affected by Syphon Funding regardless of level.
  • Snowstorm, Absolute Zero, or Icicle Impale frozen statuses onto DDTs slow them to a set slower speed, while frozen ZOMGs become only 50% slower.

In addition to these anomaly interactions with DDTs, DDTs possess additional strengths that may be considered weaker or stronger than ZOMGs. DDTs also contain only 4 ceramic bloons in BTD6, while the number of bloons from a ZOMG can easily overwhelm defenses even if all the MOAB-class layers are popped. Sometimes, a DDT may not be much of a problem until later freeplay rounds, where their speed and health increase due to ramping. As the round number increases, beyond 500, DDTs could outrun other bloons before other towers could attack it in time.

DDTs are significantly weaker on Mobile/Steam than on Flash, as they lack most of their immunities.

  • Dark Dirigible Titan (DDT) (168) Does not have black or lead properties.
  • Dark Dirigible Titan (DDT) (169) The Absolute Zero ability can slow down DDTs.
  • Dark Dirigible Titan (DDT) (170) The Pop and Awe ability stuns DDTs for longer and can damage them.

Quotes[]

This fast and terrible bloon combines all the nasty abilities of every other bloon. You'll have to best them sooner or later. They are recognizable by their black colouring.
~ "Dark Dirigible Titan" Quest description in BMC
Our scouts came running back to base looking as if they'd seen a ghost. Apparently they spotted a bloon like nothing they've ever seen, a DDT combining the properties of all other bloons. Let's prove that nothing will stand in our way!
~ "Dark Dirigible Titan" quest start description in BMCM
DDTs are large, black MOAB Bloons that have the same properties as camo, lead and black Bloons.

Trivia[]

  • Ironically, the DDT is the second smallest MOAB-class Bloon in the game.
  • The various damage stages and the hull color suggests that DDTs are made from a hard, rigid, metallic material (potentially iron due to the color) instead of fabric like all other MOAB-Class Bloons.
  • DDTs are the fastest MOAB-Class Bloon in the Bloons Tower Defense series.
  • DDTs, similar to ZOMGs, are diamond-shaped and pointed rather than rounded like MOABs and BFBs, as well as BADs.
  • It is one of the five Bloons in the series to release more than four children (the others are the Bloom Bloon in Bloons 2, the BAD in Bloons TD 6, and MOABs and BFBs in Bloons Super Monkey).
    • However, the DDT only releases four Camo Regrowth Ceramic Bloons in Bloons TD 6.
  • Although Ground Zero takes 1 hit to destroy a DDT, but will not pop the children, MOAB Assassin and MOAB Takedown can completely pop the DDT layer.
    • However, DDTs come often on groups, and Assassin/Takedown abilities can only destroy 1 DDT per ability, it is better to use Ground Zero, as infinite DDTs can be popped, and it is likely for players to have towers that can defend against the Regen Camo Ceramics, though one can argue that selling and rebuying is a better choice.
  • DDTs can lose their Camo Property from Cleansing Foam, Anti-Camo Dust and Submerge and Support. In BMC, as well as BTD6 before update 2.0, it still appears to have the camo status on the blimp.
    • When DDTs are decamoed, then their children also spawn without the camo property, making it just as easy to pop as regular MOAB's children.
  • No tower in BMC Flash and BTD6 can damage DDTs without upgrades unless they are under the effect of an upgraded Monkey Village. The same thing applies to Road Spikes (BMC only) and Pineapples.
  • It is one of the three MOAB-class Bloons with special abilities (the other two being the ZOMG and BAD which are immune to Monkey Pirates).
  • In Bloons TD 6, prior to version 8.0, the DDT lacks propellers. Yet, it does have propellers in Bloons Monkey City, and Bloons Adventure Time TD, It regained its propellers in 8.0 and Beyond.
  • The DDT looks very similar to the Lockheed F-117 Nighthawk.
  • The name of a DDT could be a reference to real life DDT, an extremely powerful pesticide which has been banned worldwide.
  • According to Ninja Kiwi's 31st March 2023 blog, there is a canon reason why DDTs always prefer coming in multiples of three. This is because the DDTs were inspired by ancient monkey texts written Mo-thagoras that stated good fortune from the number 3.

Specific to Bloons Monkey City[]

  • DDTs can come on Round 19 in Bloons Monkey City. ($1080+/$1188+ in Grassy Pass and $1000+/$1100+ in Bloon Dunes.)
  • Technically, the outer layer is harder to beat than a ZOMG's, because although the ZOMG has 4000 health compared to the DDT's 300 (Blimp health is reduced in Bloons Monkey City), the DDT has the abilities of a Black, Lead Bloon and Camo Bloon and moves nearly 20 times faster than the ZOMG, or as fast as a Pink Bloon, making it an extremely fast bloon.
    • This makes DDT tiles a bit harder than ZOMG ones, as they come in groups of three and spaced. However, this might suit M.O.A.B. Maulers.
  • A single ZOMG can be beaten in BMC with 6 MOAB Maulers under a 2/3 Village and a 3/2 Ice Tower, but 3 DDTs require more (around 12, or 6 with Monkey Boost).
  • DDTs come in groups of 3, 6, 9, etc. on the flash version of Bloons Monkey City.
    • In Monkey v Monkey attacks, groups of only 1 or 2 DDTs can appear.
    • On the Mobile version, they usually come on their own, in couples, or very rarely grouped in 3.
  • They do not appear in Contested Territory on Bloons Monkey City Mobile. They are replaced with mainly more ZOMGs.
  • DDTs do not appear in M.O.A.B. Graveyard despite the fact that they are a MOAB-class Bloon.
    • This is most likely because they would come very quickly and rush through the short map, leaving little time to deal with them.
  • DDTs can be sent in Monkey v Monkey prior to the October 10, 2014 update. Moreover, the Armored Stealth Silo is required to send DDTs to another player.
    • In Mobile, such a building is not available; although DDTs can spawn in certain ZOMG attack strategies, like Sneaky Camo.
  • If a Bomb Shooter or Mortar Monkey is in the range of an x/2 Monkey Village (or if the mortar has signal flare) hits a DDT, it will make the same sound that Lead Bloons make when a tower cannot pop them despite it not being the reason it cannot damage it. This does not apply to the towers' respective left-sided 4th tier upgrades.
  • Curiously, the DDT's final health stage in BMC Mobile depicts the metal that encircles the middle of the blimp no longer cracked, as the 3rd health stage had shown. The rip near the bottom is also fixed. It's as if the DDT has regenerated itself (for aesthetic purposes only), foreshadowing its children's regenerative status.
  • In Contested Territory on the flash version of BMC, DDTs become very dangerous after round 30 from HP and speed ramping. Without proper countermeasures, a DDT on Round 100 will charge through most tracks in just 3 seconds on average.
  • In Bloons Monkey City Mobile, DDTs can appear on ZOMG tiles. They are most common on the strategies Camo Craziness and Fast & Furious. Outside of these strategies are much rarer to appear.
  • DDTs can sometimes "jump" over placed spikes, evading the damage and charging through the spikes of a spike factory. Despite this, having multiple spiked mine upgraded spike factories at the end of the track is a good way to get rid of DDTs in contested territory on flash, as these can be enough to eat a DDT even if the round only just started, and it does not require village support due to the white hot spikes upgrade, and naturally popping camos.
  • In BMC Mobile, the Monkey Sub's First Strike Capability missile targets DDTs over ZOMGs.
  • When a DDT is caught by Monkey Pirates, it gives a very high cash reward, since its in-game RBE matches that of a ZOMG. Because of this, taking down DDTs with its ability can be a good way to get a lot of money on harder tiles where they appear in large amounts.

Specific to Bloons TD 6[]

  • Despite that the Pre-Round Comment on Round 90 says that the DDT has the properties of a Pink Bloon, the DDT is actually slower than the Pink Bloon; in reality, it is slightly faster than a Ceramic Bloon but slower than a Purple Bloon.
    • This could be because the ramping past round 80 increases the DDT's speed to that of a pre-round 81 Pink Bloon by round 90.
  • The DDT does not gain the properties of the new Purple Bloon, meaning DDTs no longer have all the properties of non-MOAB class bloons. Moreover, most blimps can be frozen in BTD6, meaning the DDT lacks White/Zebra properties.
  • The DDT can easily be dealt with through the use of the Monkey Sub's tier 5 ability, Pre-Emptive Strike as it launches a MOAB Assassin-like missile towards it upon spawning, destroying the blimp layer instantly.
    • This does not work with Fortified DDTs, as they have 800 health, allowing them to withstand the 750 damage from the Pre-Emptive Strike missiles but bringing them to critical health.
  • The DDT in BTD6 has a Camo pattern which is nearly invisible, while in Bloons Adventure Time TD it doesn't appear to have any camo patterns on it visually. In both cases, it still does have the camo properties.
  • Compared to the MOAB, it has 2x the amount of health (4x stronger if a fortified DDT was compared to a Regular MOAB).
  • For all preset rounds, DDTs will always come in threes, similarly to BMC. Round 90 has 3, 93 has 6, 95 has 30, 99 has 9 fortified, and the BAD contains three DDTs as well.
    • Rounds until 140 in normal gameplay also get affected by this pattern.
    • Round 263 is guaranteed to have 110 Fortified DDTs, breaking the pattern, although their spawn order is random.
    • Round 10005 is preset to have 100 non-fortified DDTs, breaking the pattern, although Rounds that high are normally impossible to reach due to ramping.
    • This pattern is also broken in the Alternate Bloons Rounds gamemode, as DDTs can appear in fours or sevens.
      • In Apopalypse gamemode on Rounds 81-99, DDTs can appear alone alongside various other MOAB-Class Bloons, and they rarely appear in groups of 3.

Specific to Bloons Adventure Time TD[]

  • Prior to Version 1.3, there was a bug that allowed the DDT's children to regrow back into DDTs, making them very difficult to beat if it did happen, allowing tens, hundreds, or even thousands of DDTs to overwhelm the player's defenses.
