Do RFID wallets ruin credit cards? (1)

Can RFID protected wallets damage magnetic strips or chips?

The materials used in RFID wallets, such as aluminum or copper, protect against the radio waves used in contactless payments. This shield does not affect the magnetic strip or chip in the credit card, and it does not cause any damage or harm to the card.

Using an RFID wallet can help protect your credit card from unauthorized scanning or skimming, which is when someone tries to steal your card's information by scanning it without your knowledge.

Therefore, using an RFID wallet is a safe and effective way to protect your credit card from fraud without causing any damage to the card itself.

Do RFID wallets really work?

There are many reasons why having an RFID-protected wallet is an important consideration for anyone who carries contactless cards. For example, criminals often use RFID skimming devices to steal personal information from contactless cards without touching the card physically. This means that your information can be stolen without you even knowing it. Additionally, contactless cards are becoming increasingly popular, and with this comes an increased risk of fraud. By having an RFID-protected wallet, you can be sure that your card information is secure and that any attempts to steal your information will be blocked.

The most effective way to block RFID signals is to use a conductive material to create a "Faraday cage" around the RFID. A Faraday cage is an enclosure formed by a mesh of conducting material that shields what is inside it from external electric fields. This shielding is because the external electric field causes the electric charges within the cage's conducting material to be distributed such that they cancel out the field's effect in the cage's interior.

So, the answer is yes, RFID wallets really work.

RFID wallets, Dango-Style

The most effective way to block RFID signals is to use a conductive material to create a "Faraday cage" around the RFID. Dango's RFID-blocking wallets use either metal like aluminum and titanium or special materials such as carbon fiber or G10 to prevent RFID signals from being read. The material or metal works by blocking the RFID signals from being detected by RFID scanners, thus preventing unauthorized access to personal data. Another unique material that Dango uses in some wallets is a thin metallic anti-radiation fabric that is built-in into some of our leather and DTEX pockets to make them RFID-protected. This is a great soft option.

However, we do realize that there are certain cards that a user may need to be cleared from the protection, such as contactless company access cards or tap-and-go / touch-free payment credit cards, so our wallets usually have at least one area that is non-RFID protected for this purpose. Unlike other RFID-protected wallet brands, Dango wallets give you this option so that you can configure your cards for efficiency. Below is a list of our most popular RFID-protected wallets with the non-protected option:
