I've got a Tescos quiche for a picnic dinner tonight. It says can be eaten hot or cold - then has instructions to heat for 20 mins in oven.
If I'm eating cold - do I leave as is - or do I heat for 20 mins then let cool. The pastry looks as if its cooked - or does it need crisping?

You can leave it as it is (although I always warm it a little so that it's 'just' warm' when I come to eat).

if you want to eat it cold then it is ready to eat as is, just take it out of box

Funnily enough I had the same dilema last week. we just ate it straight from the pack, it's fine.

If I'm eating it cold I just eat it as it is.

I am actually eating some quiche now which I did heat up, but only because I felt like doing it.

DH never believes me when I say it is fine to eat it straight from the pack .

I just thought maybe the pastry would be a bit soggy? We're off swimming this afternoon so wouldn't stay warm for that long as we eat on the way home.

We always heat because the pastry usually is soggy if you don't, and the eggy filling a bit heavy. but it depends on the make of quiche!
It is safe to eat straight from the pack unless it states explicitly MUST BE COOKED. Those are the words to look out for on food that could be either, such as quiches and other cold pies...

some look as though they need cooking though dont they a bit pale and wishy washy!!!!

Lonelymum · 30/06/2005 14:02

I thought I once read on the packet that if you want to eat it cold, you can eat it striaght from the packet, but it tastes better if you reheat it and then let it cool again. That might be Sainsbury's quiche though not Tesco's. Sounds like a lot of effort to me.

mandyc66 · 30/06/2005 14:04

i think u can just eat it!

oliveoil · 30/06/2005 14:06

I always heat them even if I want them cold, the pastry tastes nicer.
