Classic Mode[]
Classic ("normal") mode is the default experience for the game. The majority of the early game uses Pokémon from generation 1.
Remix Mode[]
Remix ("modern") mode is a variation of classic mode that adjusts wild encounters, trainers, and gym leaders to frequently use Pokémon introduced after generation 2 in the early game. All of the same Pokémon are available as classic mode.
Gym leaders are also given new type specializations:

Randomized Mode[]
Main article: Randomized Mode
Randomized mode can change all trainers, wild encounters, and items found in the game.
This mode is only available in the main menu after starting a classic or remix mode save file.
Expert Mode[]
This mode was moved to the update man's experimental options in 6.2.
Expert mode changes the Pokémon used by trainers and gym leaders to fusions that may be more challenging to defeat, as well as give them max EVs and IVs. Wild encounters remain the same as classic mode.
Single Species Mode[]
This mode was removed in version 6.1, and then added to the update man's experimental options in 6.2.
Single-species mode changes all trainers' teams so that their Pokémon are always fused with a single species of the player's choosing. It is advertised as a just-for-fun mode, and isn't recommended for serious playthroughs. You can choose at the beginning whether this Pokémon should be set as the head, the body, or randomly change between the two.
For example, if the chosen Pokémon were Eevee, and Single Species mode is set to always have Eevee as the body of the fusion, then Brock's Dignix (Diglett/Onix) will be changed into a Digvee (Diglett/Eevee) instead. If the settings were chosen as "head", the Dignix would become Eenix (Eevee/Onix). If "Random" was selected, it could be either, depending on the playthrough.
If a trainer's Pokémon isn't fused to begin with, it will remain unfused. Wild Pokémon are unaffected, and the player is not bound to the Single Species rule.
