This versatile vegetable, with it’s vibrant green colour, soft florets and firm stalks, makes for a great side dish. We show you a quick and simple way to cook this family favourite to perfection.

Cling wrap

Ingredients
1 large head of broccoli
3 tbsp water
Salt and pepper, for serving
Method
STEP 1
Wash the head of broccoli thoroughly in cold water.
STEP 2
Shake off excess water.
STEP 3
Place broccoli on cutting board, and with a sharp knife, carefully cut the broccoli into florets.
STEP 4
Put florets into microwave safe bowl and add 3 tbsp water to the bowl.
STEP 5
Cover bowl loosely with cling wrap or lid.
STEP 6
Microwave for 3-4 minutes.
STEP 7
Check to see if the broccoli is tender by piercing the stem with a sharp knife. If it’s not, microwave in 30-second increments until it is.
STEP 8
Carefully remove from microwave, drain in a colander if water remains in the bowl.
STEP 9
Season with salt and pepper to serve.
Is it better to steam or microwave broccoli?
Microwaving is a safe way to cook broccoli and requires less time than steaming. Microwaving is also thought to preserve the nutrients in vegetables most effectively.
How long does broccoli last in the fridge?
Cooked broccoli can last between 3-5 days in the fridge. After this time period it may begin to yellow and smell bad.
