I drank Star Wars Blue Milk so you don’t have to. Here’s what it tastes like. (2024)

The new TruMoo “Star Wars” Blue Milk is sweetened 1% milk with vanilla flavoring. It’s delicious, like a melted vanilla milkshake (in a good way).

Honestly, I was hoping for a bigger payoff. But ever since “The Rise of Skywalker” I’ve learned to deal with disappointment.

It’s been 46 years since Mark Hamill was first witnessed drinking that weird cup of milky blue in “A New Hope.” Now, you can have that experience yourself thanks to the magic of blue food coloring and vanilla flavoring.

That may not seem very sci-fi. But then again, Blue 1 Dye is also known as “Acid Blue 9.” Meanwhile, vanilla flavoring has a history of being made from castoreum, a yellow goo that’s harvested from glands on beaver butts.

Castoreum is not really used anymore commercially as a flavoring, but the point still stands. It’s an older flavor code, but it checks out.

TruMoo “Star Wars” Blue Milk | Review

Half-gallon jugs of Blue Milk started hitting shelves this year right around May 4 (AKA “Star Wars Day). Despite the cool coloring and art depicting a lightsaber duel on the label, this product isn’t that exciting.

Heck, it even uses part of the label to tell you to “pour the power of protein.”

There are 8 grams of protein in a one-cup serving of this stuff, so you do get your protein in your pour. But there are also 23 grams of sugar per serving. So it might be more accurate to tell drinkers to “sip the strength of sugar.”

What does it taste like?

This isn’t complicated. This is a half-gallon jug of milk with sugar and flavoring. It’s similar to chocolate milk or strawberry milk — just with vanilla flavoring and blue food dye swapped in.

The closest comparison I can think of is a melted vanilla milkshake. Heck, if you go to the grocery store, buy a pint of ice cream and let it melt, you’d probably get something that tastes just about the same.

The real question is what would get you more weird looks: drinking melted ice cream or drinking blue milk?

So is it any good?

Yup. This stuff is delicious. It’s vanilla milk. I’d go ahead and drink the whole half-gallon if not for the fact that it would cause an explosive reaction around my body’s small thermal exhaust port.

The final word

The secret of Blue Milk has been out for a little while now. They’ve been serving it at Disney World and Disneyland as part of the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge area.

To be honest, the blue stuff that Luke drinks in Episode IV is no longer the milk I’m most curious about. No, I want to know about that green stuff that Luke gets from milking that weird alien on the coast in Episode VIII.

But if I learned anything from Episode IV, it’s that you should drink your milk. Then you, too, can follow a pair of robots into the desert to find an old man who lives in a cave and become a psychic space wizard with a laser sword.
