RIPON– More than 90 people will lose their jobs when The J.M. Smucker Co. permanently closes its Ripon plant at the end of the year.
The plant, 1050 Stanton St., produces food products for the brands Smucker's, Santa Cruz Organic, Crosse & Blackwell, Dickinson's and Knott's Berry Farm, according to the J.M. Smucker Co. website.
It is scheduled to close Dec. 30, at which time93 employees will lose their jobs, the company saidin a Feb. 22 noticeto the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. The department received the notice Tuesday.
The company first announced plans in December to close the plant. In a news release at the time, it said the Ripon facility was closing "to further optimize operations" and that production would be consolidated at the company's plant in Orrville, Ohio.
