I think this may be the third iteration of Trader Joe’s vegetarian (really vegan) chili
— at one point, they swapped out the soy for sunflower protein, and now peas are having their day in the sun. So, if you have allergies or sensitivities to peas, proceed with caution.
I really enjoy chili but rarely cook it myself because it takes a while and makes a massive amount. For $2.49, this canned option sort of does the job. It’s affordable, effortless, and packed with fiber and protein. The crumbles give the whole thing a very meaty feel, and it’s quite filling. The flavor didn’t exactly wow me — it was smoky, yet I felt like something was missing. Hot sauce is a must here, in my opinion! I’ll probably get another can or two because they’re so convenient, but nothing beats homemade.
