Women's Lacrosse Releases 2024 Schedule - University of Maryland Athletics (2024)

Women's Lacrosse

COLLEGE PARK, MD - Maryland women's lacrosse head coach Cathy Reese announced the team's 2024 schedule on Wednesday.

"We are so excited to get this season going in our brand new, state-of-the-art complex," said Reese. "We had an extremely productive fall together and cannot wait to put it all together in the spring. Our fans will have a lot of fun watching this group against a really good schedule."

Over half of Maryland's 17 opponents on the schedule finished last season in the top 25 of the IWLCA poll, including three of the four teams that were part of the Final Four, highlighted by reigning national champion Northwestern, Syracuse, and Denver. The Terps will also get a chance to take on James Madison and Florida, who were in the top ten of the final poll of the season.

The Terps return to the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex this season after playing last season at SECU stadium due to renovations at the Plex. These included a new scoreboard with an LED video board and brand-new locker rooms and facilities.

Maryland will open the season by traveling to Philadelphia to take on St. Joseph's on February 10th. The Hawks are coached by former Maryland greats head coach Alex Kahoe ('00) and assistant coach Caroline Steele ('19).

The Terps will be on the road again a week later for a clash with 2023 national semifinalist Syracuse in New York on February 17th, before taking on Drexel in the first game at the renovated Plex on the 21st in the team's home opener.

Maryland will then stay at home to play Florida at the Plex on February 24th. The Terps and Gators played an absolute thriller last season in Gainesville, with Maryland coming out 14-13 winners thanks to a goal from attacker Victoria Hensh.

The team will then take their furthest trip of the season out west to take on another national semifinalist from the 2023 season in Denver on March 2nd, before coming back to the east coast to take on William & Mary in Williamsburg on the 6th.

The Terps will then be back at the Plex to take on James Madison on March 10th, who finished last season in the number six spot in the final IWLCA poll, before heading on a third and final two-game road trip, opening Big Ten play against Ohio State in Columbus on the 16th, and Georgetown in our nation's capital on the 20th.

Rutgers will come to visit the Terps on March 23rd for Maryland's Big Ten home opener, where Meghan Ball will get the chance to take on her former team. The Terps will also take on Penn on the 27th, before heading out to Ann Arbor to take on Michigan to wrap up the month of March.

Maryland's first game of April will see reigning national champions Northwestern come to College Park on the 6th for one of the marquee matchups in all of collegiate women's lacrosse. The Terps will then stay local, and head to Homewood Field to take on Johns Hopkins on April 10th.

Big Ten play wraps up with Maryland taking on Penn State at home on April 13th, before finishing the regular season with a trip up to New Jersey to take on Princeton on the 17th.

After expanding last season, the Big Ten tournament will feature seven teams, with the regular season champion earning a first-round bye. The first round will be at the home of the higher-seeded team on April 27th. The remaining four teams will then travel to Evanston where Northwestern will host both semifinal matchups on May 2nd, and the Big Ten Tournament Championship on the 4th.

The NCAA First and Second Rounds will be hosted by the top eight overall seeds on May 10th and 12th, and the quarterfinals will take place on the 16th before the tournament moves to Cary, NC for the Final Four and National Championship game.

Maryland will be looking to make their 13th Final Four in the last 15 seasons under Reese and return first-team IWLCA All-American and the 2023 Big Ten Midfielder of the Year Shaylan Ahearn, along with the 2023 Big Ten Goalie of the Year Emily Sterling. These two are joined by new Terp and reigning Big Ten Defender of the Year Meghan Ball, and seven other starters from Maryland's 2023 squad, including IWLCA honorable mention All-American Libby May, Hannah Leubecker, and Brianna Lamoureux who all return to College Park for a fifth season. Another IWLCA honorable mention All-American Eloise Clevenger also returns for the Terps, and 2022's number one ranked high school recruit Kori Edmondson is set for her second season as a Terp, coming off of a standout freshman campaign. The returning Terps are joined by a top-five freshman class, highlighted by midfielder Maisy Clevenger, who is the number six recruit in the country, and the younger sister of Eloise.

Game times and TV destinations will be announced at a later date. Tickets for all home games will go on sale starting next month. All game dates are subject to change for television.
