HOW TO ADJUST YOUR SENSOR LIGHT

Motion sensors are a good security device to keep your home safe, they are good for adding light when you come home at night and alerting you when someone has arrived at your property a guest or an intruder. Having Motion sensors wired to lights or lights with built in motion sensors is a good way to scare off intruders because it draws attention to them so you and neighbours can see them.

If the motion sensors is not set up correctly you will not get the benefit of having one and it can become more of a hassle waving your hands at the sensor trying to get it to activate. When having a Motion sensor installed it is good to have it in a good position that gives you lots of coverage away from trees and plants.

How to set the Motion sensor

Most Motion sensors will either have LUX , TIME and SENSITIVITY some only have LUX and TIME.

  • LUX: Lux is what controls the day and night setting it will have a picture of a sun and a moon, moving it more towards the sun will have it come on when it is lighter or moving it towards the moon will have it activate only when it is dark. This is useful if there are street light near by because it might not get dark enough for it to activate.
  • TIME: Time controls how long you want it to activate for there will be a plus and a minus sign moving it to the + will give you more time and the – will give you less.
  • SENSITIVITY: Sensitivity can be identified by SEN in the sensor and will adjust the distance and how big the object will need to be to activate it this is also controlled by a adjusting to the plus and minus sign.

STEP 1

Move the LUX stetting to day mode being the sun picture and put the time on the minimum setting.

STEP 2

Switch the light switch on that controls the sensor.

STEP 3

Move the sensor to the direction you what it to scan.

STEP 4

Walk test. Walk past the sensor to test the different areas you want it to activate.

STEP 5

Adjusting if needed some sensors can move up and down a side to side to help get the best angle.

STEP 6

Adjusting the LUX to get this exactly right it will need to be done at the time of day you want it to activate. Adjust the lux setting all the way to the moon and let it time out. Once it starts to get dark at the time you want it on slowly adjust the LUX setting to the picture of the sun it will activate once it reaches the ambient light.

STEP 7

Adjust the time setting to the desired time you want it to activate by moving the TIME to the plus or minus.

Turn the motion sensor's head right or left and up or down so that its field of vision is roughly centered on the area you want to cover. To make the head of the motion sensor light stay put, you may have to tighten screws or ring nuts on the arm that supports the head. Next, set the “on-time” switch to “test”.

How do you control motion sensor lights? ›

If you turn the switch off and on within a second or so, the light will stay on, and this overrides motion detection. To go back to normal operation, turn the switch off and wait ~10 seconds, then turn back on. I believe most will also go back to normal operations after some hours, or after the sun comes up again.

How do I adjust my motion sensor light to stay on longer? ›

If you want more time, turn to dial counterclockwise until you reach the desired level. Be aware that if you use motion sensor light in high traffic areas like hallways or staircases, it may be best to keep the low setting for energy conservation.

How to fix motion sensor light that stays on? ›

How to trick motion sensor lights to stay on? ›

One of the quick tricks you can try is to quickly turn the motion sensor ON, OFF, ON to override the motion detection and make the light stay on. To go back to motion detection mode, turn the motion sensor off, wait for about 10 seconds, and then turn it on again.

Why does my motion sensor light turn off so fast? ›

With a normal, functioning motion sensor, when it turns off too soon, it's usually because of the unprofessional installation or improper adjustment that makes the motion sensor not at its full potential to detect motion effectively.

Indoor motion detection lights can be activated by your family walking into a room or by your curtains fluttering in the wind. If your motion detector lights are activated by heat, your air conditioning and heating unit could even turn your lights on.

Why is my motion sensor light not picking up motion? ›

Wipe the sensor with a clean, soft cloth—something that doesn't scratch glass and plastic surfaces. Check and/or change the bulb. If the sensor is clean and clear, but the problem persists, you might examine or change the bulbs in your motion light, since they last a while, but will wear out over time.

How do you manually override a motion sensor light? ›

Yes, most sensors will have the ability to override the sensor function altogether and operate the light manually, as necessary. What are the 2 settings on a motion sensor light? ›

There, you'll find the two sensor controls, which are typically labeled “On-Time” and “Range” (or sometimes “Sensitivity”).

How do you reduce the sensitivity of a motion sensor light? ›

Adjusting Sensitivity: Locate the dial or switch that controls the sensor's sensitivity to motion and heat. Gently turn the sensitivity dial or adjust the switch. Typically, turning it clockwise increases sensitivity, and counterclockwise decreases it.

What are the three settings on a security light? ›
