What's in Everything Bagel Seasoning
It's the perfect mixture of 6 different seeds and spices which taste great together. This include toasted sesame seeds both white and black, poppy seeds, dried onion and garlic flakes, and flakey sea salt. A little sprinkle takes your dishes and snacks to the next level!
Ingredients
- White sesame seeds are nutty and slightly sweet, these add a classic bagel touch. Just make sure to toast them first which makes them even nuttier
- Black sesame seeds are a little more earthy and slightly bitter, these add a depth of flavor and color
- Dried onion flakes adds an oniony punch without being too strong. You can substitute with onion powder if needed, just make sure to shake the everything bagel seasoning jar well first before using, as powder will drop to the bottom
- Dried garlic granules brings garlicky goodness, without being as harsh as fresh garlic. You can substitute with a pinch of garlic powder, but like the onion powder above, make sure to shake the jar well before use
- Poppy seeds are little tiny pops of texture and a touch of nuttiness along with added nutrients
- Flaky sea salt is the finishing touch, Kosher salt is also great. Fine table salt isn't recommended as it drops to the bottom and can be too salty, but can be used if needed
What to put Everything Bagel Seasoning on
This seasoning mix is so full of flavor and makes the perfect addition to just about anything! Some ideas are:
- Bagels of course!
- Focaccia or other breads
- Avocado toast with pickled onions
- Roasted veggies
- Hummus
- Cauliflower steaks
- Eggs
- Popcorn
- Cucumber and veggie sticks with cream cheese
- Proteins such as tofu, chicken or fish and so many more!
How to make Everything Bagel Seasoning
You can make the so popular Everything Bagel Seasoning at home in no time at all. Follow the simple steps below.
- Toast sesame seeds for 5 minutes on a saucepan until golden
- Once the seeds have cooled, pour them into a small bowl and add the dried garlic granules, poppy seeds, and flakey sea salt to a bowl and give it a quick mix. That's it! Then store in an airtight container in your pantry
Tips & Tricks
- Always toast the sesame seeds, it takes only a few extra minutes and will bring out an even yummier nutty flavor
- When adding the salt component ensure to use flakey sea salt flakes or kosher salt rather than fine table salt. This helps not only with the texture and taste, but table salt will just drop to the bottom of the jar
- If you cant find granules or flakes for the spices and salt, and can only get your hands on the powders, thats ok. Just make sure to shake the bottle each time before use so that you have an even seasoning mix
- Get creative as you can of course, add more spices to the everything bagel seasoning. Some include smoked paprika, red pepper flakes, or even dried herbs like oregano or thyme
Storage Instructions
- Store in an airtight container, mason jar or bottle in a cool dry place such as your kitchen cupboard
- Your homemade everything bagel seasoning will keep for 6 months! Well, that's if it lasts that long which I highly doubt 🙂
