- "Some breads are so hearty they take the place of a meal, others so fancy they can serve as the centerpiece to the finest feast. But some bring out the best in a meal without stealin' the spotlight for themselves. This flatbread, for instance, is baked up by the fine folks at Ronto Roasters with one sole purpose—to get those savory piles of meat safely into your mouth hole."
- ―Strono Tuggs, The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook[2]
Ronto wrappers were flat, circular pieces of bread used to contain fillings or to scoop up sauces or dips.[2] In 34 ABY,[3] ronto wrappers were baked at Ronto Roasters, a restaurant owned by the butcher and podracing fanatic Bakkar, in Black Spire Outpost on the Outer Rim planet Batuu. The flatbread was used to contain the fillings of sandwiches such as Ronto Wraps and Ronto Morning Wraps. Ronto wrappers were suitable for humans to consume.[1]
After the Battle of Takodana in 34 ABY,[4] Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs published his cookbook which included a recipe for ronto wrappers and an approximation of Bakkar's ronto wraps. Tuggs described the flatbread as simple but versatile, flexible and durable enough that fillings would not turn the wrapper soggy, and would not overpower the fillings like some breads. He recommended dipping it into gravy or hummus, such as the one in his Felucian Garden Spread, which he provided his recipe for in his cookbook and served at his mobile restaurant, Tuggs' Grub.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
Ronto wraps, the first dish that used ronto wrappers, were announced on February 27, 2019 as part of a large press release on upcoming dining offerings for the Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge theme park.[5] The dish made its first appearance in the first issue of the Marvel Comics miniseries Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, which was written by Ethan Sacks, pencilled by Will Sliney,[6] and released on April 24.[7] Ronto wraps debuted in the real-world Ronto Roasters restaurant at Disneyland Park when it opened on May 31, with pita bread serving as the ronto wrappers.[8]
Ronto wrappers were named when they were included as a recipe in the 2019 cookbook Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook by Chelsea Monroe-Cassel and Marc Sumerak. The ingredients for the recipe are warm water, olive oil, brown sugar, salt, instant dry yeast, minced garlic cloves, mixed dried herbs such as savory or marjoram, and all-purpose flour. The book's recipes for ronto wraps and Felucian Garden Spread use ronto wrappers as an ingredient.[2]
